Big Draw 2010 In 2010 we put whiteboards and blackboards on the tables along with chalk and pens for the whole month of October so customers could draw whilst enyoying a pint. Once done they could have a photo taken of their drawing (optional) before the board was wiped clean for the next drawing We'll also had an exhibition of drawings: Scribble and Scrawl by Jane Dearden, Beth Heaney, Tracey Meek, and Kate Smith. Big Draw 2009 In 2009 we put out piles of beer mats and pots of pens, pencils and crayons on every table and invited everyone to draw for the month of October. You can see some of the results here. People could keep their drawings or stick them on the wall and in the end we had over 350 beer mats on display.
Year of the Artist 2000, Art on Beer Mats
For the Year of the Artist, Kate initiated a project to put art on beer mats. 5 artists: Mike Dexter, Matthew Edwards, Sacha Holland, Kate Smith and Anthony Toolin each did a residency and produced a beer mat. Hardy Hanson's sponsored us and produced 'Artist's Ale' a beer especially brewed for the Year of the Artist. 100,000 beer mats were produced and distributed throughout the East Midland's region (and were also displayed at the Tate for an event along with the beer). The Crompton hosted Sacha Holland's photographic residency 'the role of women in the public house' and had an exhibition of all the artist's work along with the launch of 'Artist's Ale' and of course the beermats.
